Meet my baby tortoise without a shell XD.
Heidi is a red Saharan uromastyx (U. Geyri), one of my dream pets. I got her at a reptile expo in the summer of 2023, during which the breeder approximated her age at about 9 months old. This would make her hatch date at around October of 2022.
Heidi has come a long way from being very skittish (still is, but significantly less) to being comfortable in my presence. She doesn't mind at all when I do my reptile shenanigans and actually quite enjoy watching me as she relaxes in her basking area. Although she has been with me for almost a 3 years, she is still not comfortable with being picked up or handled. I continue to socialize with her through handling once or twice a week for about 3-5 mins and hand-feed her whenever I catch her outside her hide.
Heidi is a great eater! She is not very picky at all and eats the same foods as her tortoise siblings (even pellets!). Heidi loves to climb as high as she safely could and dig underneath her hides.
It is definitely a pleasure to have her in our family and I can't wait for her to be fully comfortable with our handling sessions!
